For ten days, I did nothing. And it was the hardest thing I have ever done. Not the swim. The waiting. I had come to Tarifa to cross the Strait of Gibraltar — the narrow channel where the Atlantic Ocean pours into the Mediterranean, where Europe and Africa stand only about 14 kilometres apart, close enough to see one continent from the other.
