We have been looking for a charity to support for our English Channel swim for some time. After careful consideration, we decided to go with Cagdas Yasami Destekleme Dernegi (CYDD)- Association for Supporting Contemporary Life. The NGO mostly has projects on education in Turkey, mainly education of girls. Through our swim, we are raising funds for their university scholarship, which is called "you can light a candle, too".
To raise awareness for fundraising efforts, two of our relay team members, Raha Akhavan and Emre Deliveli, along with our coach Kamil Resa Alsaran, interviewed Hurriyet, the Turkish daily with the most circulation. The story appeared on the cover of the paper on July 10, 2019:
